Super 6 Round 5 Matches

Bolton vs Southend

The last time these two teams met was in 1996, so the previous meetings are pretty much useless. Head-to-head the teams are even, both winning 3 of the 6 games they have played against each other. Bolton are currently topping the table after 5 games, Southend are a bit further back in 19th. Bolton are yet to be beaten this season, winning 4 and drawing 1. Southend have lost 3, drawn 1 and won 1. Bolton average 1.5 goals at home while conceding 1 a game. Southend average 1.5 goals away and concede 1 goal. The bulk of Southend’s goals came in a 3-0 win over Sheffield United, the prediction here:

Bolton 2-0 Southend

Millwall vs Bradford

The last four games between these two has seen both teams end with a win each. Overall, Millwall edge the head-to-head 8 wins to 3. Out of the two, Bradford have started the slightly stronger and are yet to lose in 5 matches. This is owing to their strong defence, which has only shipping 3 goals so far. Millwall have scored more goals out of the two (11), but have also conceded more (9). Millwall have scored an average of 2.5 goals at home, while conceding 0.5 goals. Bradford have scored an average of 1.5 goals away, while also conceding 0.5 goals. A draw seems the most likely result, the prediction:

Millwall 1-1 Bradford

AFC Wimbledon vs Chesterfield

AFC Wimbledon have not started the season well at all and they are yet get a win on the board. At home Wimbledon have scored on average a goal a game, they have conceded an average of 2 goals at home though. Chesterfield have started the better and find themselves 10th in the league. At home they score 1 goal a game, but concede 1.5 goals a game. Chesterfield have scored most of their goals late on in the match so today’s prediction is:

AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Chesterfield

Crewe vs Doncaster

Doncaster are on a bit of a run in the league at the moment, they have won their last three and drawn the fourth. Crewe on the other hand have seen their results getting progressively worse. They started with a win but followed that with 3 draws and a loss last week to Cheltenham. Crewe find themselves sitting 16th in the league while Doncaster are 3rd. The two times the teams met last season saw 9 goals with the honours shared. This season though, Crewe have scored and conceded 1.5 goals on average at home. Doncaster have the same averages as Crewe away from home, scoring and conceding 1.5 goals on average. The Doncaster’s form this leads to a prediction of:

Crewe 1 – 2 Doncaster

Morecambe vs Leyton Orient

Morecambe have recovered from their opening day defeat in great style by managing to win the next 4 games. They are on top of the table with a two point cushion over second. Leyton Orient’s form has been a little more patchy but have still managed to win 2 of their last 3 games. Last season’s fixtures saw Leyton Orient win 1-0 at home and away. Time will tell if they can make it 3 from 3. At home Morecambe have scored 2.0 goals a game and have managed to keep the goals out (conceding 0.5 goals). Leyton Orient have been able to score 1.5 goals away this season, but have conceded a goal a game on average. With Morecambe’s impressive start to the season its hard to side any other way. The prediction:

Morecambe 2-1 Leyton Orient

Portsmouth vs Crawley Town

A clash between 8th and 9th with Portsmouth hosting Crawley today. Portsmouth come into this fixture on the back of two wins, while Crawley have won, lost and drawn their last three. It is hard to find goals in this fixture, Portsmouth concede 0.5 goals at home, Crawley concede 0.5 away. The stats seem to suggest Portsmouth could edge it with a home goal average of 1.5 compared to Crawley’s away goals of 1. Portsmouth do have the best defence in the league right now and have only conceded 3 goals total, two of which were against Morecambe. The final prediction:

Portsmouth 1-0 Crawley
