Winging it – Gameweek 9

A Bournemouth goal fest, two saved penalties and 0-0 at Anfield made up the high and low lights of Gameweek 8 in the Barclays Premier League. Who are you selecting as captain this gameweek?

Junior Stanislas

A classy display all round from the midfielder as Bournemouth battered a poor Hull side 6-1. He grabbed two goals, the first a well taken penalty straight down the middle, his second a composed first time finish at the back post. He also produced two assists, both from free kicks and deservedly so, three bonus points.

Stanislas is incredibly cheap at £5.5m and if he continues his form of 3 goals and three assists in three games should see a rise selection as well as price.

Theo Walcott

The Arsenal winger is in a rich vein of form right now and added to his excellent point scoring again against Swansea in a 3-2 victory for the Gunners. Two goals and a bonus point will have delighted the many managers who captained the midfielder instead of the obvious choices of Agüero (-1 point) or Son (1 point). Walcott impressed in Arsenal’s 6-0 trashing of Ludogorets and was taken off just after an hour so should be fresh for the weekend clash with Middlesbrough.

Arsenal’s other midfield stars Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez when on fire during the mid-week tie, with the German scoring a second half hat-trick. But priced at £9.5m and Sánchez at £11.3m, Walcott could be the cannier buy at a more reasonably priced £7.9m. In fact he is the most transferred in player at the time of writing with over 200,000 managers bringing him in. Walcott has the knack of letting owners down in the past with spurts of good performances, lets hope this isn’t another false dawn and we can keep the winger in our team for a while more and maybe even trust him with the captaincy.
